Very good video but how can you practice this?

Very carefully... Actually I don't recommend practicing this at all. I've been caught once by the rat trap just by setting it up and it hurt...alot. My finger is still bruised from the impact and it happened about four days ago.

Thought it was pretty cool Sean. Now if you can figure out a way to make the selected card appear under the trap after setting it off I think that would be a wicked variation on Curtis' trick =) I was actually expecting you to show an indifferent card on the reveal and then have a kicker where the card was actually trapped under the clasp on the floor. Pretty neat overall and definitely something you could play around with to a certain extent (watch the fingers!) --Jim

Actually, there are a couple effects where the magician does a card on sword type effect using a mouse trap to snap on the selected card, which is called Trapped by Bill Strickland from the book titled The Magic of 1937. Another way that I saw Curtis perform this (this was his actual performance on the DVD) was that he was able to snatch the card and not even have the trap go off and then dropping the deck onto the trap to show the audience what could've happened. Of course it's a safer way to do it, but tripping the trap during the performance really gives an adrenaline rush when performing because it's not foolproof.

Great effect. People always love danger. I didn't even know there was a magic shop on Oahu. I'm gonna go check it out this weekend.

the deck actually would soften the blow, if he did it too slow.
