Nice mitchell, and a great effect. But why make a cut in the video? You know better than that...

it was a good performance and a good trick. i actually learnt how it was done from this video but im good at following cards. what is the full title of the book AoA? im intrigued
J-Ham replies: (Score: 0) 10 months ago
The full title is The Art of Astonisment by Paul Harris. There are 3 books actually and this trick is in Book 1. I totally recommend getting the set if you have the money.

art of astonishment.

I'm astonished that you would flash, and rather than re-shoot the move just do a cut at the most suspicious part of the trick. 1/5 for that dogg.

the ending is awesome 5/5 but why the flash?

i believe WH also perform this sometimes, it is a cool and simple move. if perfect performance is worth 5 here, u get 3.

I personally wouldn't have accepted this video. I've seen so many people perform this "wrong" that I want people to stop. It's nothing personal against Mitchell, but I feel with all the sub-par videos of this trick going around it continues to propogate... maybe one of those "problems of magic" people keep talking about.

There are quite a few subtleties that I see most people miss on YouTube/etc that help convince people about what you're doing. I don't know what to say without revealing how it's done, but as performed here I don't think it's all too convincing to most people.

I'd really suggest you take another read at AoA I believe it mentions some of these subtleties in there. Also, please re-shoot next time... the cut will just make magicians question your skill, and will make laymen think you're doing a camera trick.

Correct me if I'm wrong. Maybe it's just because I've seen it so many times? Maybe it's because I already knew how it's done? But one person mentioned they figured it out just by watching... is it because he's good or is it because it was easy?

Aya Richard, good point there, he can sure do some serious rework on his sandwich move, although most magician can figur this out regarldless of the performance really

I have to agree with Richard on this one. Should have been reshot if you flashed. I do not like editing. If I want to see editided effects I would watch Criss Angel.
MitchellStafiej says: (Score: 0) 10 months ago
Thanks for the tips Richard, but I had figured out the method when watching Houchin perform, but I never performed it because it's my duty as a magician to learn from the creator himself.
richard replies: (Score: 0) 10 months ago
Ah, I'm glad. I think that's part of the problem though: a lot of people who learn just from watching somebody do it on YouTube doesn't always grasp all of the intricacies that make the move really work and so then it harms the move. That's the whole propogation issue. I would really recommend you pick up AoA then and learn it the right way.

Also, I think uploading a video on the Internet for the widespread public to see constitutes performing the move.

Too much over handling, no need to place the cards on the table only to pick it back up and there was no need to keep counting the cards in an Elmsley fashion. Go back an re read the description in the book. Its described and taught the way it is for a reason.....
