"A video that was made about me for school. It is meant to inspire others with talents - I only do a couple effects here. It was someone else's project and not mine, so I can't really complain about the camera work."

If only people react this way in Singapore

LLin, The reactions are not based upon ethnicity or culture. The reactions are based on many things... Your Skil, Your Smoothness, Your Patter, Your Confidence< Your Style, Your Image...and most importantly...How much fun the audiance has. If you want these reactions then just work on all of these things and be the best you can be. Dylan P.

Dylan, while I enjoy your video, I have to disagree that reactions are not based on ethnicity or culture. Different cultures are raised to be different ways. For instance, Asians are very self controlled, disciplined, and responsible. This is just the way they are raised, so Singaporeans for instance, are most likely very modest and don't react like we Americans do, although I am sure their heads are goin crazy inside.

While all of that may or may not be true, Cyril Takayama and many other magicians have proven themselves successful in asian countries. I again agree with Dylan that if you can create enough amazement, you can break down any social norms that are present within your spectators. Don't be so gloomy, just keep trying. You can't just give up and then say it doesn't work.

good point. But I think if somebody wanted to generalize why Asian's don't react the way Americans do, that would be why. But if you are Cyril, you have a lot of super strong effects that could probably make even the most "stone cold" person react excitedly.

I'd have to agree with Dylan. Ethnicity doesn't really play much of a role in it, in my opinion. I lived in japan and performed a lot on the streets with just normal people. Many of the tricks I did were the same or similar ones to this video and i've gotten a lot of the same reactions from them. Dylan pretty much describes what it takes in the first post. Yes, asians can tend to be a little more reserved in general ways, but most people (especially those who haven't experienced the country first-hand) are just believing exaggerrated stereotypes

That was what this video was meant for and I am happy to see that the point was conveyed quite clearly.
