The Invisible Palm - Revealed
Posted on July 09, 2008
"This really isn't an exposure film. It is an Invisible Palm routine that I filmed in practice... with a surprise ending. One of my earlier videos."

I didn't like your presentation. Saying to your audience that you tricked them and have been decieving them (although true) makes them feel bad.

I liked it. :) The titled shocked me though. I was thinking "Did somebody actually just reveal?... Did Theory 11 also just allow this to be posted....?" Anyway, I enjoyed it. :)

aaaaaa! hate the way you vanish the cards, it let me wishing something. Try to squeeze or something.
and also don´t tell your audience you are fooling them. First of all, you lose the respect the have for you as a magician and ruins the magic. couldn´t get worst... tell the something like: well, i invisible palmed the kings but for those who know how to play poker, you know the kings arent the best hand. The best hand is to have the four ace(at this moment you show them). Thats the way i would do it :D

I might be the only one who read the video description, seeing that this is an older video. I sincerely hope that your presentation and handling has changed since this video was recorded. If it hasn't, however...

Things to work on:
- Vanishing the cards. You don't need to press it down with your left thumb, just let it naturally fall.
- Making the cards appear. Don't make such a sliding motion. It looks too suspicious.
- Your patter.

I wont comment the presentation style because it is a personal thing how you want to present yourself. You have to work on this trick technically. It is not as smooth as it should be. When you use Braue addition to switch the cards you should be moving fast and smooth.. the cards should be immediately pealed of the deck after the switch.. no pause. Also this is a slight variation of Yannick Chretiens invisible palm routine so some credits would have been nice.

P.S that sliding motion mentioned by benjamind is a big mistake. It makes the whole appearance of the card so obvious.

Change the patter. You don't want to be the guy who's just doing this to "fool them". You could say that there are cheaters who cheat like that, but don't say that you'll show them how they will get tricked. If you do that you seem like a guy who thinks he's better than anyone else. You want to give something to your audience instead of showing that you're more clever than they are.

In the beginning you have some weird handling there. You should start the trick having the kings on top of the deck. Then you don't have to first pick them up and place on top of the deck and then count them there and then place them back on the table. It will flow a lot better.

When you place the card down don't do that sliding motion. It can be a dead give away. In the beginning your break flashes a lot. You might want to smooth that up as well. Also practice your tent vanish.

A lot of critique, but that's what helps us to become better right? :)
Keep it up!

By the way, it was good until you said, I've been fooling you the whole time, would be better if it looked like they had changed instantly.

Patter. You seemed to have just learned this, made up some patter, and not practiced enough. It seemed that you were making up what to say on the spot. While you shouldn't have what you're going to say down pat, word for word, robotic-like, you should have a few sentences you know you'll throw in, and your story should go smoothly overall.

Also, you went painfully slow. While, with good, smooth patter, this might be the perfect length, I felt that I was being dragged through the trick.

A lot of technical things to fix, but just practice, and remember to keep asking yourself, "What would I be doing if I really had this 'power'?"

Smoothness.

the tricks its self was ok but the patter was kinda bad in my opinion. i only say that as constructive criticism so please dont take it personal. its not the choice of words that needs improvement although it may, its your tone of voice. it sounded really unatural and im sure u dont talk like that in real life. just be your self. ohh and one more thing, try not to restate that you only have 4 cards. although as a magician you would think it would make more sense to show 2 times in a row you have 4 cards to over prove it. your spectator will become suspicious. one time is enough to set the fact or illusion in there head.

One of the biggest mistakes with invisible palm performances (including WH:S) is when you spread your fingers to show that the card is not there.
You should mimic palming of the card and not be as fair as you can be. You are not vanishing the card you are "hiding" it really well.. You want them to believe that you are hiding the card otherwise the solution to the trick is a clear one- you never actually picked it up. Look on the tube how Larry Jennings does his version. He is almost pretending to do palm transfers. This I think is crucial to all invisible palm tricks because the method is a rather transparent one. This is specially true if you are pattering about cheating techniques. You need to be believable..

for a new trick, it was decent. I agree with a lot of the comments above.

You should refilm this now that you have practiced it lots. Or better yet, do it for someone and record it!

I have been working on this trick and have performed it live in a dinning environment and it went fairly well. Now I really should say the video was made months before I posted it first at MVD now here.
I felt I would get more of an honest opinion over here then there.

By the way thank you everyone who left a comment most if not all were extremely helpful.

Not very good man. The trick went by hella slowly, and like miika said, you should follow the d.m. great advice of making your spectators feel on the exact same level as you so you can connect with them. You shouldn't be trying to portray someone on a higher level than your audience and try to make it look like you know something they don't, you should try to be as equal as possible.
