"How can you milk a one-handed cut for all its worth? This video explores that question, with some schizo editing on top of it all."

it was ok. i just feel like all the videos you put have the same stuff on it. you've done the x cut to death. i still liked the editing

Agreed... as I say in the description, I'm milking it for all it's worth :) The most difficult part was really just getting all those different motions, pauses and positions to flow as smoothly as they did.

That's some pretty cool stuff man. As always, you make the simplest of material look so stylish. This is something everyone needs to learn. That it's not just about What you do, it's How you do it.

You've overdone this cut a lot. IMO it's getting kinda boring watching you do it again and again in almost every single video. but well executed i must give you that.

I agree with Eugene. While this is one of the coolest one-handed cuts out their, is there really a reason for milking it? Its kind of ruining it. Its like if you watch a movie, and you love it. If you watch it ten more times your not going to like it anymore. And at about 13 seconds, you looked kind of robotic. Great editing skills though.
Kev H replies: (Score: 0) 33 days ago
Just wanted to point out that I (personally) disagree with your metaphor, Creeper - if I love a movie, it only gets better every time I see it because of all the little subtleties and nuances that I discover on repeat viewings.

Might just be me, though - plus, it depends on which kinds of movies you're talking about.

You kinda have a point there. I'm just still ****ed cause I ruined Uncle Buck by watching it too many times. But still, this vid is nothing new. At first i thought it was a joke. A little editing doesn't do much, its the same cut.
richard replies: (Score: 0) 33 days ago
I agree I need to get off the X-Cut. I almost called it "milky way" because of the milk... it's also why it's called "ReduX".

But the way I see it is it's not just about the X-Cut itself. There are new elements in the video: the open and closer with the fingers around the deck, the display with the crossed fingers. It's mostly an exercise in motion and display, that was using the X-Cut as a basis to do that.

Is robotic a bad thing? lol

After this video I don't think I could feasibly make another one based on the X-Cut again though. So safe to see this might be the last one... for a while.

I'm also with Eugene on this one - good editing, but the motions in the flourish seemed a bit monotonous. It's an exciting cut with a lot going on, for sure, but the basic motions of the flourish seemed to be an almost-too-predictable 'deck in front of camera, pull back, do stuff, deck in front of camera again' pattern. Maybe that's what you were going for (after all, the title of the song 'Recurring' seems to hint it), but I guess my main problem with the look of the routine is that, as opposed to your previous video 'VorteX Sequence', the two hands seemed to be together too much, instead of operating separately in a non-symmetrical manner.

All in all, the video does show your skills with timing, routining, and the (literal) in-your-face style, but if not for the awesome editing I'm not so sure if this would hold up on its own.

though i think this is one of the best one handed cut sequences out there, there is a such thing as overkill. if you don't do this cut for like a year, then make another video with it, that may be a sufficient break to make it great, even better. However, for now, I think you've truly milked it for all it's worth, the only way to go is down from here.
richard says: (Score: 0) 33 days ago
PS you can find the less-schizo, clean version of the sequence at http://tinyurl.com/3uhj7k (trust it's not a kev/richroll) -- I think you'll find it might hold up as much as the edited one :)

actually I liked the video (and the description made me rollerskate while laughing out loud), the addition of the interlocked fingers was good, however near the end you may have done just one or two extra "spinning hands around" in a row... perhaps a move like a quick aerial to back of the hand for closer, or dragging a packet on the arm, or your triangle display out from the centurions teaser, would have gone a long way torwards breaking this up. I liked the spastic editing because it was still continuous, meaning it had flow... and it was good to see you post a video anyways so I gave it 5/5.

can you do L-X quad cuts, I think that would be a nice phase to add...

Definitely a good video. The "schizo" edtiting was pretty nice. I like how he screen glowed when the heavy beats came in, same with the motions and adding the fingerlocking, and the finger "displays" around the deck.

It's good to see someone taking the full potential of a cut and to completely butcher it to find all its possibilities. Most people need to do that rather than just doing the cut the exact same way as the creator, BUT it does get boring watching the same things over and over again but if new things come in (finger displays) it gets entertaining.

Good job, keep the "milking" coming.....Ok that didn't sound right.

Editing was great, the timing with the music combined with the effects made it flow and added to the style. The motions were very artistic and stylish and it seems you've practiced them a lot. It was good except for the spinning motions from about 14 - 16 seconds, it looked like it was very unnecessary, and like you were just spinning your hands and wrists around. Still, great use and range of the motions with not just the cards.
Tjernobyl says: (Score: 0) 27 days ago
I really like the choice of music. This asian style electronica track make a nice ambiance to your flourish. It is clear that you get, when you flourish you need to take consideration of other things than just the flourish itself. It even proves that with a very simple cut, you can make a good piece by choosing the editing style and music right.

To be honest I'm getting pretty tired of all those videos with stereotypical punk bands playing only electric guitar and drums, and not even being good at it.
